T-SHIRT PARTY X BOILER ROOM X REDSTRIPE

In 2010 we hung some Matalan bedsheets from the ceiling in a shitty room in east London and projected videos onto them for a boiler room X TSP takeover and some mates played some music (Alex Nut, Funkineven, Shamos). About 30 people were there and it was shut down by the police. It was the last Boiler Room in the original space and was the birth of the visuals seen at the Boiler Room up until now as well as the original ‘Public service’ tee. It was also the start of a great relationship between ISYS and The Boiler Room. This Redstripe Make Session event in 2013 was a re-happening of what a bunch of mates did on an independent level 3 years ago. Homecoming bizness.

We are really happy to be working with Prestel on our first book. ’What We Wore’ is a people’s style history of Britain from 1950 to the present day. The project is about you and your personal stories: why you wore what you did, and what it meant to you.

ONE NIGHT. FIVE FILMS. FIVE TRACKS. ONE ORCHESTRA. ONE HOST. A SOUNDSCAPE AND VISUALS INSPIRED BY THE SOUND OF THE CITY AND THE RIVER THAT RUNS THROUGH IT. HUNDREDS OF IMAGES BY PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN PART OF THE PROJECT.

‘Paved With Gold’ was the culmination of a 2 year long project by ISYS to document and explore London’s Youth Cultures. Working alongside audio partners NTS Radio, the result was a modern day ‘City Symphony’ which traces a day in the life of London through film, sounds and musical samples from artists selected by NTS. This was collated to form an audio sound track to live performances and film screenings which took place at the new Tate Modern TANKS on 24th August 2012, as part of the Undercurrent Programme. Artists playing live on the night included Slime, Vondelpark, My Panda Shall Fly, Dark Sky, RPBLC of Many Voices, James Massiah, and CKTRL.

‘London. For those who want to live and die here. There is no greener grass. No beach under the paving stones. The streets of London are paved with gold.’

New Voices is a photography project by the Migrants Resource Centre produced over a period of four months, 6 young londoners produced photographic work on the themes of culture, migration and life in London. The exhibition launches tomorrow at the Centre for Possible Studies. in partnership with the Serpentine gallery.

Trading Style which opened yesterday at the Weltkulturen museum in Frankfurt brings together labels from all over the globe, A Kind of Guise, Buki Akib CassettePlaya, P.A.M, who each did residencies and the museum and created work in response to the collection. The exhibition presents over 500 historic objects, photographs and films from the Weltkulturen Museum’s anthropology collection together with new designs for clothing and accessories by the four labels.

Trading Style is on until 31st August 2013.

M.I.A IN PRINT

‘When I make an album, I make a number of artworks that go with it.’

With her art school background it is no surprise that M.I.A’s creativity evades easy classification. Although she maybe better know for dropping hits like Paper Planes she has continued her practice as a visual artist alongside her music career, her unmistakable collage style pieces run riot over the album sleeves of her three albums.

Mixing exoticism and digital motifs with a touch of tackiness M.I.A’s artworks are commentaries on the world around her and the issues she explores in her music. Next week she releases a book of artworks and self-penned essays giving her fans an insight into her creative process and work.
